Had some headers custom made for my E28 M535i ... not yet fitted, but seem to be well made, good quality stainless, and based on the factory Alpina/Hartge cars should add some power plus improve the sound. Have had the Stebro stainless cat back system fitted for a while, and on its own made a significant difference. I drove a Hartge E24 635i with similar headers not long ago and it was ballistic and sounded like a race car. Will update again after fitting, and include a before and after dyno ...

Hi Mark,
Just got hold of an M535 this weekend, I saw your car at the Dyno day but couldn't catch you. Would love to know where you got the header's and system for it as i would like to do it to mine. Thanks Jimmy. |

Sorry for the delay in updating ... new headers now fitted and dyno completed. End result is excellent, with dyno showing +12rwkw increase due to headers alone. My car made 90rwkw standard, 102rwkw before headers fitted, and 114rwkw with headers ; so total increase with headers, cat back system, chip, and throttle body = +24rwkw or approx 25% over standard. Most noticible changes are in the sound (louder but sweeter and deeper, with fantastic sound up to redline), topend power (pulls hard to redline with much less wheezing/drop-off), and throttle response (much improved, with faster engine response to throttle, engine rise/settle times, etc). BUT ... there is no way these RHD headers made for M30 engines will fit straight up to an E28. I should have expected that, but there was an incredible amount of work required to get them on the car (re-cutting every pipe, re-routing power steering lines, avoiding front roll bar, steering column, etc ; not impossible, but a lot of work = $$$). Thanks to Melbourne Performance Centre for persevering and ending up with a work of art. Not recommended if your M30 based car is not special to you and you're not ready for an invoice starting with a '3' (and that is just for the headers), but if you want to spend that sort of money on a special car that you'll keep, then I can tell you the car responds very well to the headers, and you will love the result. If there is one thing an M30 motor responds well to, it's better breathing.
