M5 a blast this weekend. Had a great drive with a couple of mates in 'other' V8's and an AMG Benz, driving the GOR in reverse direction this weekend.
First, the Geelong bypass is almost finished which saves lots of time. Then cutting through to Port Campbell via some back roads was fun even though the surfacing left a bit to be desired with dips and hollows at cruising speed. The Cape Otway section had some recent rain to make things slippery but the M5 on Potenza's stuck like glue. Advisory signs could be comfortably doubled, even in the wet. Cruising at the speed limit (+5) and then attacking corners at the same speed was enjoyable without being risky for the public or license. M5 in it's element, not stopping from huge speeds, not frying it's tyres with corner after corner on max attack, passing slow traffic in a few seconds in any gear, just gobbling up road at a brisk pace, devouring the windy stuff with ease. 10 year old 'worlds fastest 4 door saloon', albeit in good nick, was a shit-load of fun. Couldn't wipe the grin off my face at times. Just had to wait for the others every now and then... Hard to see how you could give your Gallardo / Ferrari / Porsche a workout on public roads at sane speeds though? Even harder to blow out the cobwebs of a traffic clogged Italian donk seeing how long it took the M5 to run clean without exhaust smoke. I think M's need a good rev now and then to get rid of the peak hour fouling blues. I wonder if you can even write this stuff anymore... |
